Telemole technical support
I would like some advice please.
My mother is experiencing an ad hoc problem with her Telemole. Every so often the "green live" light goes off and I have to wiggle the cable at the back to make it come back on again. It then goes through it's searching routine and after a while the green live light settles down again and stays on. There are no loose cables so have no idea why it appears to do this. My mother purchased the Telemole in 2005 and it is hardly used.
When I visited my mother last night I noticed that the green live light had gone off again, so I went through the usual routine above and after a while it settled back down again, but this time it has completely lost Channel 3 (ITV) - all the other channels are there - 1, 2, 4 and 5. When it goes through it's searching routine (which I view on the TV as it is doing it) all the channels appear, but once it has finished channel 3 disappears.
Can you let me know how this could happen and what I can do to get channel 3 back please.
Picking up the 'other channels' shows that the Telemole is working properly - so, you'll need to 'Power-Up' the Telemole, again, and watch it 'surf' the available channels. (Incidentally, it might be worth cleaning the dc power input plug whilst it's out)
Now, as each channel is picked up you should see the legend at the foot of the screen showing the actual channel number e.g. Ch 56 together with the description e.g. BBC2. As the Telemole scans, or surfs, through the channels it will pick up and store the strongest/best signal in your region for each one.
However, whilst you are watching your Telemole surf through the channels I am sure that you will see it show your local ITV/Channel 3 signal - but there will be no legend showing at the foot of the screen and so the Telemole cannot pick up and store the signals for the TV channel and subtitles.
This is a broadcast problem (i.e. not a problem with the Telemole). The proper description for the legend or footnote, above, is 'data packet 830 format 1' and it must be transmitted properly (generally about once per second or more) in order for the Telemole to pick it up, and occasionally broadcasters have technical problems with, or just forget to send, these signals.
You have a couple of choices; You can either call Customer Services for your local ITV broadcast station and complain that you are trying to use a Telemole to combine the program and subtitles and that 'the packet 830 format 1 is not being broadcast', or you could wait a couple of days and try disconnecting and reconnecting power to the Telemole and let it do an new scan - by which time the broadcasters might have noticed or put right the fault that meant that the data you need was not being transmitted.
I hope that this information helps and that the 'packet 830 format 1' is transmitted more consistently on all channels in your area.
