Listening to the TV FAQ
Firstly thank you for the monthly news letter. My brother is deaf and I know nothing of the equipment that is available and sometimes the terminology is confusing.
My question is that before Xmas we bought from you a set of headphones for the TV that he can use with his hearing aid when he was in hospital. Now he is home when we plug into the TV my mother cannot hear the sound - is this normal or are the headphones faulty Sorry to sound really dim.

Yes, one of the problems with some TVs is that when you connect anything to the headphone socket it cuts off the loudspeaker - which of course means that nobody else can hear it! It might be worth checking the instruction manual for the TV, if you have it, as sometimes you can go into an on-screen menu to change these settings.
You should still find that your Silent Headphones will work in any device with a headphone socket, such as a personal stereo or MP3 player.
We offer a range of alternative devices that you might consider for use with the TV, including loop systems and infra-red and radio listeners. Most of these can be connected to the TV in a different way which does not turn off the loudspeaker - plugging into a SCART socket around the back is usually the best way.
