Bluetooth and fm radio aid systems - FAQ
My son wears digital hearing aids and at present we have a CRM-220 supplied to us by the local PASSIS teacher which is used at school mostly but occasionally at home. I would like to know if you have a bluetooth device that can be used with the hearing aids and will allow me to use my bluetooth headset to communicate directly with my son and also be able to link to a laptop with bluetooth to transmit the sound directly to the hearing aids.
I've seen a couple of bluetooth devices on your website such as the SmartLink SX but would appreciate your advice on what may be suitable. The area of operation would be in the house, in the car and used by me on a bike to talk to and comfort my son in a bike trailer that we have.
An interesting question. The only bluetooth product that we supply, as you have discovered, is the SmartLink SX. The SmartLink has a bluetooth 'headset' profile, and when used with a 'master' profile device, such as a mobile phone gives two way communication - as if it was a conventional bluetooth headset.
Within the bluetooth system a 'headset' profile device will not communicate with another 'headset' profile device so unfortunately no you cannot use your bluetooth headset to communicate with the SmartLink SX.
On a lateral thinking level, the quality of bluetooth sound would not be as good as the sound quality from your CRM-220, or other radio aid system, so even if such a system discussed above existed it would not be as good as using your existing radio aid so I would actually suggest continuing to use what you already have. One additional item which you may decide to get would be a headworn microphone for the radio aid which would be better for use when you are cycling or in other noisy situations.
